(Edrix)

Spending twenty minutes talking to Hunters was not my idea of a fun party. At first, I’d felt overwhelmed after seeing all the Hunters in the room. How were we supposed to have a chance against this many people? But after talking with a few of them, I found out that some of them were just passing through. The Hub was kind of like a hotel for Hunters. You could come and get your ship repaired or refueled as well as stay while such tasks were completed. I wasn’t sure how many of them were only here for the food, but I guessed I would find out tomorrow.

Andresha came over to me. “That was terrible,” she said. I looked at her.

“What happened?”

She tossed hair out of her face. “Every person I talked to just wanted to start a fight, much less make friends,” she sighed. “Most of them treated me like a kid so …” She trailed off.

I wasn’t sure what to say. She was young for the average hunter. I guess Tasha either hadn’t considered that, or didn’t think it was a problem.

Just then, Thanos clapped his hands from across the room.

“Excuse me, but dinner is ready. If you will all follow me.”

Andresha and I followed him and the rest of the group through a set of huge double doors. Inside was a long table the same amber color as the walls.

“Please have a seat,” Thanos said, seating himself at the head of the table. Andresha and I started to get seats towards the end of the table, but Thanos called out, “Solan,”

I turned towards him and he beckoned us over.

“Come sit up here,” he said.

I was instantly on alert. Why did he want to talk to me? I looked over at Andresha and met her gaze. Andresha pursed her lips for a moment, then gave a stiff, almost imperceptible nod. Proceed with caution.

We went over to the seats he motioned to. We were two seats away from him. Droids brought plates of food to each person. There were steamed vegetables, a helping of meat and gravy, a thick slice of bread, and bowls of fruit placed on the table.

I was hungry, so I began eating with vigor. Andresha ate, but not as enthusiastically. I caught her staring at me.

“What?” I asked. She shook her head.

“Men and their food,” she said. as if it were an explanation.

I shrugged it off and continued eating.

Thanos looked up from his plate. “So, Edrix,” he said. I looked up.

He took a sip of his drink and continued. “What made you decide to become a Hunter?”

I took a sip of water, then replied. “It pays well.”

“Better than the Higher Order on Rendaria?”

I smirked. “Much better.”

Thanos chuckled.

“What about you … Andresha was it?” he asked.

I glanced at Andresha, unsure of what she would say. Please, I thought, don’t let your tongue get away from you. She calmly finished slicing a piece of fruit.

“I don’t like people telling me what to do,” she said finally. Thanos nodded.
